Infographics Design Planning
I made my infographic about the effects of social media as a primary news source and the data that has been gathered about those who are most commonly utilizing social media in that manner. I used graphs to show the ages that are most commonly using social media as news. The other table that was included was to show the breakdown of men vs women across a multitude of news outlet sources. In some cases it was split very closely between men vs. women while others there was a much wider gap. I also was able to include an impactful quote from the Pew Research Center that I felt would’ve been hard to display in a graph setting. This is why I included it as a quote in between the graphs. The other graphic I included was which political affiliation was more likely to use social media as their source. I included a few generic social media related graphics to highlight the page and help with formatting, and chose fonts that were easy to read and can be found when using most social media apps. The infographic I created focuses on the implications of social media as a primary news source. I delved into the demographics of those who rely on social media for news, utilizing data visualization tools to effectively convey the information.
I incorporated bar graphs to illustrate the age groups most reliant on social media as their news source. Additionally, I included a table highlighting the gender distribution across various news outlets. This table revealed that the gender split varies significantly depending on the news source; some outlets showed a near-equal divide between men and women, while others exhibited a substantial gender gap.
Recognizing the power of impactful statements, I incorporated a pertinent quote from the Pew Research Center directly into the infographic. I felt that this quote encapsulated a key point that would have been challenging to convey through a graph or chart.
To further explore the nuances of social media as a news source, I included a visual representation of how political affiliation correlates with social media news consumption. This graphic provided insights into the political leanings of those who frequently turn to social media for their news.
Finally, to enhance the visual appeal and thematic consistency of the infographic, I incorporated generic social media-related graphics. These graphics served to highlight the page and aid in formatting. I was mindful in my font choices, selecting fonts that were both easy to read and commonly used in social media applications.
